New: Villa Danieli's (of Sheraton Imperial KL) Wine Dating

Last month, we were invited to experience Villa Danieli's new monthly event especially created for wine lovers and learners alike, playfully nicknamed "Wine Dating".

Worry not. It's not what you think it is.


Well, it's NEARLY like what you think it is.

But instead of the awkward hooking up with a strange person, you'll be hooked up with wines instead! Hooking up (or rather, mingling) with fellow wine appreciators is optional and well, really, after a few glasses, everyone's your friend, right? :)

Italian Banfi Wines with grapes from Le Rime Fumaio, Col Di Sasso & Collepino featuring Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Merlot & Sangiovese, as well as Bell'agio, a sweet red dessert wine.

It's a rather refreshing twist to the traditional formal, sit down wine/food pairing dinner that usually comes with a little bit of an intimidating atmosphere. While this feels more casual and fun, it's still kept classy and intimate.

Happening every last Thursday of the month, Villa Danieli will feature a new label every month and with specifically curated finger food to pair with the wines. I say finger food, but don't be alarmed, it's really quite a lot of food! See:

TONNES of food. There's even a welcome drink to kick start the night.

Each food/wine course is located at different parts of the restaurant. Guests are meant to walk from "stop" to another "stop" to get to the wines & paired food (yes, expect some standing and walking - forced exercise paired with wine! WIN!).

At each pit stop, the in-house sommelier (or sometimes, guests from the winery or vineyard) will briefly introduce the wine and food items before everyone tucks in.

The night ends with a fun little spin the wheel draw where  everyone goes home with a little something from Sheraton Imperial KL.

Little "flash cards" clipped at each glass with info about the wine as you enjoy them. I appreciate these little touches.

For those not in the know, this Italian restaurant has been around since 1998 with over 200 wines to offer. Renowned for Italian / Italian inspired cuisine and rustic charms (it's even got a beautiful ceiling mural!),  it's quite a lovely place for a date with wines or even a fellow human being if you're so inclined ;) 

Each wine dating  session is priced at RM 220 nett per pax, with a limited number pax set at 30 per event.
