What you might not know is that Suntory Whisky Kakubin, which is not only Japan’s number one selling whisky, is also the go-to whisky for highballs in Japan. It is so popular that it has its own name -“Kakuhai” - which is a marriage of the words Suntory Whisky KAKUbin and HIGH(hai)ball.
The whisky is affectionately known as just “Kakubin”, or “square bottle”, which is the actual shape of the bottle. The unique tortoise shell pattern design, etched using the traditional Japanese art of cutting glass (known as Satsuma Kiriko), which symbolises both happiness and good luck.Blended according to Japan’s whisky pioneer Shinjiro Torii’s vision in 1937, Suntory Whisky Kakubin is the first locally made whisky accepted and embraced by the Japanese. The blended whisky captures the essence of whiskies from three distilleries – Yamazaki, Hakushu and Chita.

Official tasting notes of the Kakubin:
Nose: hints of lemon, green apple, sweetness of butter cookie, and hazelnut.
Palate: the nutty taste of popcorn, apple, tropical vibes of dried coconut, and baked almonds.
Finish: dry, toasty, hay-like flavour.
